Winter in Chicago is like a Day at the Beach

Winter Family Fun in Chicago ~  So it’s December in Chicago and it’s cold. Wind blowing, frost-causing, can’t go outside to play cold. Chicago-style cold. My ex-husband hates it. He grew up in Palo Alto where it’s 70 degrees and beautiful everyday. I feel his pain, but as a tried and true Midwesterner, I don’t necessarily understand it.

Winter in Chicago is  supposed to be cold. It’s supposed to snow. It’s supposed to be a bit inconvenient. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun!

Winter in Chicago is a time for exploring. To check out new museums, inside attractions and malls. It’s our time to for family fun playdates via the planetarium, MSI or  Navy Pier.

I LOVE NAVY PIER. I know what you’re thinking, major tourist trap, but hear me out.

Historic Navy Pier is known as Chicago’s lakefront playground

It hosts the Chicago Children’s Museum, an Imax movie theatre, the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and hosts a ton of super fabulous events including the  Winter Wonder Festival , the Santa Hustle 5k and our personal favorite the Chicago Toy and Game Fair / Young Inventor’s Challenge.

JRB loves going to the Chicago Toy and Game Fair at Navy Pier (and mom does too)

But don’t take my word for it, check out Navy Pier for yourself. Parking is pricey ($22) so plan to stay for a while. But with movies, restaurants, a children’s museum and host of fun stores and attractions, it will be worth your while.

And here’s something else that’s fun… tired we stuck around til 9 for fireworks. (ewe did it once it was 50 degrees, I thought  The folks at Gymboree have created an interactive Playdate Guide via Pinterest so finding fun places to go in Chicago or (or really anywhere in the country)  just got easier! I LOVE sharing fun ideas re: places to go, see and do & I’m always open to learn what others like as well.

Thank you to Gymboree for sponsoring this post. In exchange for sharing one of my favorite Chicago Family Fun Destinations, Gymboree gave me a gift card so I could buy some site clothes for JRB (did you know Gymboree goes us to size 12?) JRB LOVES his new Herringbone pants and given how picky my Sport jersey and sweat pant loving kid can be, this is BIG news!
