Love this fabulous group of ladies!

A few weeks ago, I hosted a luncheon at Mathnasium in Naperville for local moms and bloggers. Many of you know how much I love Mathnasium, and their commitment to helping kids learn to love and excel in math.

Our luncheon was an overwhelming success. We met with several of Mathnasium’s amazing instructors and learned about The Mathnasium Method™,which personalizes the students experience and enables them to learn in a manner that best suits each individual.

Melanie, Aparna, Gary and Alon are just 4 of the fabulous Mathnasium instructors

During the event, the center’s owner and director Aparna Pai talked to us about the company’s founder, Larry Martinek and his mission to find an approach to teaching math that would provide children with the strong foundation they need to succeed in math. Rather than relying on traditional rote memorization and repetitive exercises, Martinek focused on helping children understand math by honing their math instincts and getting them to think like mathematicians. Math is one of those subjects that is cumulative, which means kids need to master one skill before they can move up and master one that is more complex.

We got a taste of what it’s like to think like a mathematician when Alon, one of centers instructors  tested our math prowess with challenging math questions while also helping us better understand why and how the math works.

In many ways Mathnasium is similar to a gymnasium, but instead of working out one’s body, you are working out your mind!
