Europe is home to some amazing beach resorts and the good news is that many are heavily geared towards family vacations. If your family’s idea of fun includes beautiful beaches, hot sunshine, theme parks and natural beauty spots then there are some standout destinations awaiting your arrival. This summer, why not consider the Canary Islands or the Algarve? These sunny destinations are popular for good reason.

The Canary Islands lie south-west of mainland Spain and around 200Km from North Africa, which means you’re likely to receive hot weather no matter when you choose to visit. Tenerife, the largest island and one of the most popular of the Canaries, has long been a hit with families. On this island you can explore underwater depths on a submarine voyage or journey to a height of 3,718 meters on foot or on the Mount Tiede cable-car. The beaches at resorts in Costa Adeje, Las Americas and Los Cristianos exude a laid-back but fun atmosphere and there are plenty of water-sports activities to keep the kids entertained. Tenerife is also home to roller-coaster and aqua theme parks for the thrill-seekers, as well as wildlife parks where kids can view dolphins, penguins and gorillas.

Endless Beaches

It takes approximately one to two hours by ferry to reach Gran Canaria from Tenerife and this island is known as a ‘continent in miniature’ thanks to its diverse landscapes. The third largest of the Canaries features a dizzying array of beaches, from the seemingly endless white-sand dunes of Maspalomas to the honey-colored family beaches at San Augustin. You’ve got 120 miles of coastal beaches to choose from not to mention an interior that includes mini-deserts that can be crossed by camels and the giant Palmitos Park, home to an array of wildlife. One thing Tenerife and Gran Canaria have in abundance is many great restaurants and cafes, which, due to the family-loving Spanish, will always provide a welcoming atmosphere.

Care-free Days in Albufeira

The Algarve lies on Portugal’s sunny South Coast and when it comes to family vacation destinations, it doesn’t really get much better than Albufeira. The coastal resorts provide visitors with over 25 superb beaches, most of which have won the coveted Blue Flag for cleanliness and facilities, and water-sports are on offer on most of these beaches. Family days out can include trips to the vibrant harbour town of Lagos or to the Valencia Natural Park, home to Spain’s largest lake. The Zoomarine with its dolphins, sea-lions and even its own beach along with the rollercoasters at the Aquashow Park are the two huge theme parks that make Albufeira such a hit with families.

Holidays in any of these locations will provide some unforgettable memories. Sunshine, beaches, natural beauty spots and fun are included free of charge in what has to be some of Europe’s most desirable and budget-friendly family vacation hotspots.
